Study Finds Cap-and-Trade Bill Could Cost 2.4 Million Jobs
A study examining the effects of the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill (H.R. 2454) on electricity costs and employment has been released. The study, while describing an overall picture of the effects the legislation would have, particularly focuses on 15 manufacturing-heavy states, the majority of them in the Midwest.

New Tool Calculates Electricity Price Increases for Metalcasting Facilities Under House Cap-and-Trade Bill
In late June, the House passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act (H.R. 2454), a cap-and-trade bill sponsored by Reps. Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Ed Markey (D-MA). AFS opposed the bill because, among other reasons, the cap-and-trade scheme would cause electricity costs to skyrocket for all facilities (not just the covered facilities emitting over 25,000 tons of carbon equivalent).
