AFS Announces Safety Awards for 2009
Applications are now open for the 2009 Millionaires Safety Award. This annual award recognizes AFS Corporate Member facilities that accomplish one million, two million and up in million increments of consecutive man-hours worked without incurring an occupational injury or illness from Jan. 1, 2009 through Dec. 31, 2009 that results in days away from work or death. Candidates for the 2009 award must apply by Jan. 15, 2010. The awards will be presented at the 114th Metalcasting Congress, held in conjunction with CastExpo’10, March 20-23 at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Fla. In addition, AFS is announcing a new safety award. The 2009 AFS Safe Year Performance Award is designed to accommodate AFS Corporate Member facilities with 9 or more employees who complete one year without incurring an OSHA recordable injury or illness between the dates January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009. Candidates for this 2009 aware must apply by Jan. 15, 2010. This award will be presented at the 22nd AFS Environmental, Health & Safety Conference, held in 2010.  To download an application for this award, click here.

Attendee/Exhibit Registrations Open for the 113th Metalcasting Congress, Housing Cut-Off Approaching
Attendee and exhibitor registrations are open for the 113th Metalcasting Congress, which will be held April 7-10, 2009, at the Paris Hotel, Las Vegas. More than 1,800 key industry people from around the globe are expected to attend.

Attendees will have the opportunity to sit in on more than 140 technical and management presentations intended to increase plant effectiveness and profitability. In addition, as many as 250 companies are expected to participate in the table top exhibitions, highlighting the latest in industry equipment.

If you have not already made your hotel reservation, now is the time to do so as the housing cut-off is March 6. Rates have been reduced from $159 per night to $135 per night. Guests who have made reservations in the AFS/NADCA block will automatically receive the lower rate.

AFS Northwest Regional Conference Focuses on Technology
The AFS Northwest Regional Conference will be held March 19-21 at the Red Lion Hotel, Seattle. The theme for this year's event is "Technology, the Key to Our Future."

Preconference events include Ergonomics for Plant & Office Personnel, the Metalcasting Solutions Seminar and Building an Effective Leadership Model for Your Foundry.

Conference presentations will include "U.S. Metalcasting: Competing in a Global Economy," Alfred Spada, AFS, "How Lean is Your Design Process," Henrik Barth, NovaCast, "Appropriate Technology for the Job Shop," Barry Ramsay, D8 and "Marketing and Selling Castings in the Internet Age," Leo Baran, AFS.

Plant tours of Woodland Pattern, Thomas Machine & Foundry, NorthStar Casteel, Pacific Grinding Wheel/Bates Abrasives, Travis Industries, D&L Foundry and Pentz Design also will be included at this year's event.
