Television Ad Airs Opposing Card Check Legislation
A new television ad aimed at defeating the misnamed Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) has been released as part of a public awareness campaign to educate voters. The EFCA (H.R. 800) would replace the private ballot with a system called card check, which allows a union to organize if a majority of employees simply sign a card. Under this system, the employees' signatures are made public to the employer, the union organizers and coworkers. These ads are sponsored by the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace, which AFS is a member organization.

AFS members who attended the Government Affairs Conference in April lobbied in opposition to this bill for the second year in a row during their Capitol Hill meetings. The AFS Washington office and Government Affairs Committee also are preparing to ramp up advocacy efforts in the coming months. To view the television ad, click here.
