AFS is producing a series of raw materials webinars scheduled for Aug. 20-21. These webinars are intended to educate on the many ways ferrous and nonferrous raw material pricing is affecting metalcasting facilities. Dates, times and topics include:

• August 21 at 2:00 p.m. CST - "U.S. Pricing Trends - What Washington is Doing to Regulate Scrap Prices," and "How and Why International Scrap Pricing Affects Domestic Prices," representatives from the American Scrap Coalition.

AFS to Hold Energy Savings Workshop
AFS is sponsoring a free energy savings workshop on Nov. 4 at AFS Headquarters, Schaumburg, Ill. The workshop will initiate an increased AFS focus on helping the metalcasting industry benefit from energy reduction technologies.

The energy saving workshop will address:

• improving the profitability of metalcasting facilities by reducing energy consumption;
• issues relating to energy use in metalcasting facilities;
• energy saving technologies and implementation;
• developing an active AFS working group to promote and sustain energy related activities.

CMI Offers Cupola Melting Course
CMI will be offering a Cupola Melting for Operators course Sept. 23-25 at AFS/CMI Headquarters, Schaumburg, Ill. The fundamental principles of cupola melting and combustion are reviewed in terms of airflow, temperature, chemistry and melt rate. Other requirements, including the use of raw materials, charge calculation, data logging, standard procedures, process quality audit and problem solving techniques will be considered.
